Pamela Warner, the mother of Malcolm-Jamal Warner, says she has reached a settlement with representatives for her granddaughter, just days after a GoFundMe campaign was launched to support the late actor’s widow and their 9-year-old daughter.
Pamela is the trustee of the Warner Family Trust, and has managed it since The Cosby Show star established it in 1996.
In a statement to People, Pamela addressed recent public comments from Tenisha Warner, who had been involved in a legal dispute with her mother-in-law over Malcolm’s estate.
“Pamela continues to grieve the sudden loss of her son, Malcolm,” the statement says. “She remains focused on protecting his legacy and the well-being of his daughter and family.”

The statement continues, “Recent claims that Pamela sought to prevent her granddaughter from receiving financial support are untrue.”
Pamela’s team added that Malcolm had made plans to provide for his wife and daughter “separate and apart” from the family trust.
The settlement comes after Tenisha filed lawsuits in California and Georgia against Pamela, who oversees the Warner Family Trust. Tenisha alleged that Malcolm had agreed to obtain a $1 million life insurance policy naming her as the sole beneficiary, but died before securing the policy.
Tenisha was seeking $1,276,042.46 from the trust, plus interest, attorney’s fees and court costs.
Last month in a statement, Tenisha said she had spent the previous year trying to resolve matters with Malcolm’s estate privately and that he had intended to provide for her and their daughter.
The legal dispute became more public when Tenisha did an interview with CBS Mornings last month, then this week her longtime friend Destiny Rael launched a GoFundMe with a $40,000 goal to help Tenisha and her daughter navigate the legal and financial matters surrounding Malcolm’s estate. As of Friday, the page is almost at its goal, having raised $39,038.
According to Pamela’s statement, Malcolm’s daughter will receive “the majority remainder of the Trust and Estate.” The agreement also states that it is in the child’s best interest to maintain a relationship with her grandmother.
“Pamela remains hopeful that all parties will support the resolution and that her granddaughter will receive the full benefit of Malcolm’s legacy without further delay,” the statement concludes.
