The widow of Malcolm-Jamal Warner will apparently get financial help from a new GoFundMe campaign, while she is locked in an estate battle with the late actor’s mother.
The fundraiser, titled “In Honor of Malcolm-Jamal Warner: Support for His Family,” was launched on behalf of the actor’s wife, Tenisha Warner, and their 9-year-old daughter.
A note on the fundraiser page says Tenisha has been struggling financially since her husband’s death.
“You may assume that Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s career left his wife and daughter financially secure,” the page reads “That was his intention. Malcolm had worked with his attorneys to update his estate plan to provide for his wife and daughter, but he passed away before he could sign it. They thought they had time.”
Organizer Destiny Rael said she has been friends with Tenisha for 19 years and introduced her to Malcolm. According to Rael’s website, she is a certified trauma-informed transformational life coach, a grief coach, speaker, and crisis counselor.
Rael wrote the money raised will help cover expenses and provide security for Tenisha and her daughter. As of Wednesday afternoon, the GoFundMe page she started had raised $35,907 toward a $40,000 goal. The total includes an anonymous donation of $32,300.
Malcolm and Tenisha were married in May 2022. The Cosby Show star died in July 2025 after accidentally drowning during a family vacation in Costa Rica. He was 54.
The fundraiser page says Tenisha “stepped back” from her career as a doctor of psychology to raise their daughter and “support Malcolm as a father, an actor, and as her husband.”
Urban Hollywood 411 contacted Tenisha for comment on the GoFundMe campaign but did not immediately receive a response.
In an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings last month, Tenisha said she was still trying to come to terms with her husband’s death.
“I think the hardest thing about grief is that people, they move on, you know? But for us, because we’re his wife and child, there’s no moving on,” she said.
Legal Battle Over Malcolm’s Estate
The fundraiser comes just weeks after Tenisha filed lawsuits in California and Georgia naming her mother-in-law, Pamela Warner, who oversees the Warner Family Trust.
Tenisha alleged in court documents that Malcolm had agreed to obtain a $1 million life insurance policy naming her as the “sole beneficiary,” but he died before securing the policy.
“The Decedent died without having satisfied his obligations under the Agreement, and no person or entity has paid or provided the sums due to Plaintiff under the Agreement,” one of the lawsuits says.
Tenisha is seeking $1,276,042.46 from the trust, plus interest, attorney’s fees and court costs.
“For the last year, I have attempted to privately settle my beloved husband’s complicated estate and honor his last wishes,” she said in a statement last month. “Malcolm had every intention to provide for our 9-year-old daughter and me. He was close to finalizing a new estate plan to replace the stale plan created in 1996 when he was 26 years old.”
On the one-year anniversary of Malcolm’s death, his mother posted a tribute on Instagram and seemingly referenced the legal dispute without naming anyone.
“During my year long journey, I have discovered how cruel, evil and greedy a human can be,” she wrote. “I have also discovered the depth of love, care, concern and support that humans are capable of. All of which I have been the recipient of. The good, the bad and the ugly. These are the lessons that apparently I will need as I continue my journey.”
Rael briefly addressed the dispute on the fundraising page.
“I am not asking anyone to take sides in a family matter that was never meant to be public,” she wrote. “I am asking you to stand with a grieving wife and mother, and her young daughter, so they don’t lose what Malcolm always intended to provide for them.”
