Tyrese Gibson knows how to hold a grudge.
The singer and actor was a guest on a recent episode of the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, and spoke about his role in the 2001 film Baby Boy. Tyrese said working with Ving Rhames left a sour taste in his mouth, even after all these years.
“I was not acting in Baby Boy. That n–a Ving Rhames definitely triggered the sh—t out of me. I don’t like the n—a to this day,” said Tyrese.

He admitted even seeing Rhames — who played Melvin, the ex-con boyfriend of Tyrese’s on-screen mom Juanita — still makes him angry.
“I run into that n—a to this day. I don’t give a f—k where we at, what clothes we got on, what we doing, what event— it could be the Golden Globes— I see that n—a across the room I be like, ‘Man, f—k that n—a back there,'” Tyrese said.
In one “traumatizing” scene in particular, the two characters are arguing due to Tyrese’s character Jody bringing up Melvin never seeing his two biological kids and how he abused his past exes.
At first, it looks like Melvin is just going to walk away, but then he puts Jody in a chokehold, leaving him gasping for air.
Juanita walks in the room, interrupts Melvin and essentially saves Jody’s life.
Snoop Dogg, Taraji P. Henson, A.J. Johnson, and Tamara LaSeon Bass also starred in the inner-city drama about a misguided young man, who struggled to deal with the commitments of real life.
Baby Boy was directed by the late John Singleton, who was also known for helming Boyz n the Hood, the 2000 film Shaft, and Poetic Justice.
