Tori Kelly says she feels “good” and is “grateful,” following her health crisis over the summer.
The American Idol alum appeared on the Tuesday, Oct. 10, episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show and recalled the terrifying ordeal of being hospitalized for blood clots after collapsing at a restaurant in Los Angeles in July.
“It’s been a crazy few months, a crazy year,” Tori told host Jennifer Hudson. “I actually ended up collapsing one night, and they found out that I had blood clots. And it was really crazy and scary.”
The 30-year-old singer spent days in the hospital and credits her loved ones and doctors with helping her pull through.
“My family was definitely there for me,” she said. “I had a peace throughout most of it, but I was just kind of confused, and wondering what was going on. I thankfully had some amazing doctors who were able to just take care of everything and get me healthy. And it seems like it’s a manageable thing now. I feel amazing, they’re still monitoring me and everything like that.”

The “Never Alone” artist told Hudson her life has slowly been returning to normal.
“I’m back to singing,” she shared.
Hudson asked Kelly when she returned to the stage. The pop and gospel artist’s EP Tori was released on July 28. She told Hudson she was anxious to perform her new music.
“I had my music scheduled to come out that same week,” she explained. “And I kind of had the option, ‘Okay, do I want to push it back even more?’ And I decided, ‘You know what I’m still going to put out this music, even though I can’t promote it the way that I usually would. I was like, ‘I really want to still give my fans the opportunity to just listen to this music.’ Because this music is just so happy and fun, and I wanted them to be able to just have that. Then, right when I was feeling better, I actually got to go out on tour.'”
She even riffed with fellow American Idol alum Jennifer Hudson during the appearance.
Tory appeared on season 9 of Idol in 2010. She made it to Hollywood Week but did not reach the “Top 24.” Still, her career eventually took off. The Wildomar, California native released her debut album, Unbreakable Smile in 2015, and has since won two Grammy Awards.
