One of the most-watched categories at the 2020 BET Awards is the Best Gospel/Inspirational Award.

The nominees include Fred Hammond for “Alright,” John P. Kee ft. Zacardi Cortez for “I Made It Out,” Kanye West for “Follow God,” Kirk Franklin for “Just for Me,” PJ Morton ft. Le’Andria Johnson & Mary Mary for “All In His Pain,” and The Clark Sisters for “Victory.”

During a virtual interview, Clark Sisters member Dorinda Clark-Cole told us it’s an honor to be recognized. “This is absolutely phenomenal. Any time you are being nominated for this type of award, it is with great honor,” she said.

Youngest sister Karen Clark–Sheard will perform on the BET Awards with daughter Kierra Sheard.

“It’s a lot of work! I mean, hair and makeup. You know, we always want to make sure we’re cute, and then what can I say about two, and three, and four pairs of Spanx that you have to put on,” Karen said jokingly.

Kierra plays her mom in the Lifetime movie The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel, which premiered in April. The sisters talked about the importance of the film.

“We wanted people to see the things that we had to go through on this journey we had to go through as The Clark Sisters, young and old,” Dorinda explained.

The Clark Sisters are credited with bringing gospel music to the mainstream. Over the years, they’ve won three Grammy Awards and are the highest-selling female gospel group in history.

The group released their 17th album, The Return, in March. The album was produced by Rodney Jerkins, Warryn Campbell, Jermaine Dupri, Mano Haines, and Karew Records President J. Drew Sheard II. The new release includes the BET Awards-nominated track “Victory.”

The 20th annual BET Awards air on Sunday, June 28, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET, BET Her and CBS.
