‘The Clark Sisters’ Movie Scores Lifetime’s Biggest Ratings in Four Years

The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel made a joyful noise with Lifetime viewers.

The authorized biopic — charting the rise of the popular Detroit-bred gospel group and their trailblazing mother — debuted on Saturday, April 11.

The film brought in an impressive 2.7 million total viewers, Lifetime said in a press release Monday. That marked the highest-rated original movie premiere for the cable network since 2016. It was also the top-rated original movie on all of television for 2020 across key demos on both broadcast and cable, according to Lifetime.

The film burned up social media too. #TheClarkSisters ranked #1 across all TV on April 11 with over 700,000 interactions, according to Nielsen Social.

The five Clark sisters were played by Christina Bell as Twinkie; Kierra ‘KiKi’ Sheard as Karen; Shelea Frazier as Dorinda; Raven Goodwin as Denise; and Angela Birchett as Jacky. Aunjanue Ellis portrayed their mom, Mattie Moss Clark.

The film was executive produced by Holly Carter; Queen Latifah; Mary J. Blige; Missy Elliott; Shakim Compere; and Loretha Jones .

Christine Swanson directed from a script written by Sylvia L. Jones and Camille Tucker. The movie featured recordings of The Clark Sisters’ music.
