With Snowfall nearing the end of its run, there’s said to be a spinoff in early development at FX.

The project would be centered on Gail Bean as she reprises her role as Wanda, according to Deadline.

The plan is for the spinoff to continue the events from Snowfall as South Central Los Angeles goes from the crack era to gangster rap in the 1990s, amid the growing presence of the Bloods and Crips street gangs.

It’s unclear if other characters from the original series would be included in the new project.

Malcolm Spellman (Bel-Air and Empire) has been brought in to write the pilot and serve as showrunner if the series gets picked up.

Dave Andron, who co-created the original series, would co-executive produce alongside Trevor Engelson, Michael London, Tommy Schlamme and Julie DeJoie.

Snowfall will end its six-season run on April 19.

The series premiered in 2017, and chronicled how the crack cocaine epidemic began, the destruction it caused in South Central Los Angeles, and how an off-the-books CIA operation contributed to the crisis.

Damson Idris stars as Franklin Saint, a young drug kingpin in Los Angeles. The cast also includes Angela Lewis, Amin Joseph, Carter Hudson, Isaiah John, Devyn A. Tyler, Tamara Taylor,
DeVaughn Nixon, and Sergio Peris-Mencheta.

The series was created by John Singleton, Eric Amadio and Dave Andron. Damson Idris also serves as a  producer. Dave Andron is showrunner.

Snowfall is produced by FX Productions.
