The golden girls are back after gymnast Simone Biles’ floor routine at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Led by Biles, Team USA beat Italy and Brazil to secure the gold medal. The U.S. gymnastics team, consisting of Biles, Jordan Chiles, Hezly Rivera, Jade Carey, and Sunisa Lee, finished with a final overall score of 171.296, ahead of their competitors.

With this win, team USA gymnastics has won gold in Atlanta, London, Rio, and now Paris.

Biles made history by surpassing Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals won by an American gymnast with Tuesday’s victory, bringing her total to eight.

She still has a chance to add more medals with the all-around and apparatus finals coming up.

According to the Olympics website, Biles is “the most decorated gymnast in history.” In addition to her Olympic medals, she holds 30 World Championship medals and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, by President Joe Biden in 2022.

This victory marks a redemption for the U.S. women’s team after taking second place at the Tokyo Games in 2021. Biles had withdrawn from the team final in Tokyo, citing mental health issues.

In the recent Netflix documentary series, Simone Biles: Rising, the Ohio native discussed her “mental blocks” and her decision to withdraw from competition at the Tokyo Olympics, highlighting the importance of mental health.

The 27-year-old also talked about her life with husband Jonathan Owens and her journey to the 2024 Paris Olympics, saying: “I am in a place in my life where I’m comfortable with who I am and what I’ve been through as an athlete, but most of all, as a person.”
