Shyne is sharing his truth in the trailer for the upcoming documentary The Honorable: Shyne.
In the trailer, released on Monday, Oct. 21, Shyne explains how his life changed when he became a Bad Boy Records artist.
“Everybody that heard me wanted to sign me,” he says. “Signing to Bad Boy, I became a millionaire.”

After inking a deal with Sean “Diddy” Combs, the rapper says he was with the music mogul “all the time.” That includes the fateful night in December 1999 when a shooting occurred at a New York City nightclub, leaving three bystanders injured.
Shyne was arrested and convicted of assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession for the shooting. He served almost a decade in prison and was deported back to his homeland of Belize. Diddy was found not guilty of all charges.
“I was absolutely set up to be the fall guy,” Shyne says in the trailer, echoing comments he’s made in recent interviews since Diddy became the subject of mounting sexual abuse lawsuits.
After prison, the “Bad Boyz” and “Bonnie & Shyne” rapper says he was determined to change his life.
“There’s a time to pivot. There’s a time to transition, and that’s how I got into politics,” he explains. “The politics just came naturally because that made me have a purpose.”
Faith Evans, Gene Deal, DJ Khaled and other music industry insiders also appear in the trailer.
Born Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Shyne and his mother moved to Brooklyn when he was a child.
Now 45, he is an opposition leader in the Belize House of Representatives and head of the Belize United Democratic Party.
The Honorable: Shyne charts his life story and comes from Andscape, the Black-led multimedia brand from Disney and ESPN.
ColorCreative produced the film. Executive producers include DJ Khaled, Talitha Watkins, Carolina Groppa, Ameer Collier, Raina Kelley, and James Shani. The film is directed by Marcus A. Clarke.
According to the official description, the documentary “provides an intimate look at Shyne’s personal evolution as he navigates fame, incarceration and a return home to Belize, where he finds new purpose and strives to lead his country to a brighter future.”
The Honorable: Shyne is set to premiere Nov. 18 on Hulu.
