Sheryl Lee Ralph, one of the original stars of Dreamgirls, will soon have her name cemented in Hollywood history.
The Emmy-winning actress and singer is set to receive the 2,808th star on the Los Angeles landmark, in the category of television.
Ralph currently co-stars on the ABC comedy Abbott Elementary.

On stage, she is well known for originating the role of Deena Jones in the 1981 Broadway musical Dreamgirls, which earned her best actress nominations for Tony and Drama Desk Awards.
She shared the stage with Jennifer Holliday and Loretta Devine, helping to create one of Broadway’s most iconic productions as they spotlighted Black women in showbiz.
Ralph will be honored on the Walk of Fame by Devine and Abbott Elementary creator and co-star Quinta Brunson, the Walk of Fame just announced in a press release.
“Our Walk of Fame honorees are selected solely based on their achievements in the entertainment industry. With her remarkable talent and contributions, Sheryl Lee Ralph is more than worthy of this prestigious recognition,” Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said in a statement.
Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, Ralph was raised between Mandeville, Jamaica, and Long Island, New York. The daughter of a college professor and a Jamaican fashion designer, she has become a beloved staple in the entertainment industry.
Since her breakthrough role as Deena, Ralph has appeared in the TV shows Moesha, Ray Donovan, and Claws, as well as the films Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit and The Flintstones.
After a career spanning four decades, she now plays veteran teacher Barbara Howard on Abbott Elementary, a role that won her an Emmy for supporting actress in a comedy series in September 2022.
She’s also a trailblazer, with the success of Dreamgirls leading to a 2006 film adaptation, which featured Jennifer Hudson, Beyoncé Knowles, and Anika Noni Rose.
Ralph’s star will be unveiled on Wednesday, April 16, at 11:30 a.m. PT at 6623 Hollywood Boulevard.
