Samuel L. Jackson is teaming up with Chris Rock for the upcoming Saw reboot.

The horror film, which just started production, stars Rock as a police detective investigating a series of grizzly crimes. Jackson will his dad.

Also joining the Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures film are Max Minghella as William Schenk, Rock’s partner, and Marisol Nichols as Capt. Angie Garza, their boss.

“We think Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock along with Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols make this film completely special in the Saw canon and we can’t wait to unleash this unexpected and sinister new story on fans of this franchise,” Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate motion picture group, said in a statement Monday. “This is the next level of Saw on full tilt.”

It’s unclear if Tobin Bell, who played the infamous Jigsaw killer in the Saw franchise will be resurrected.

As Urban Hollyood 411 previously reported, Rock is re-imagining the popular franchise, which is being touted as offering fans “a new amped up level of deviously treacherous traps, clever clues and the edge-of-the-seat suspense they expect.”

Rock serves as executive producer, with Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg writing the script for the still untitled film. Longtime Saw filmmakers Mark Burg and Oren Koules are producing.

The Saw franchise began in 2004 and ended in 2017. It grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide.

The new installment is slated for an Oct. 23, 2020 release.
