Rap Sh!t has been canceled and season 3 will not move forward at Max.

The streaming service made the announcement Thursday, and praised creator Issa Rae for bringing the music-centered comedy series to the platform.

“We are extremely grateful to Issa Rae for creating Rap Sh!t, a one-of-a-kind comedy with compelling social commentary that reached viewers in a way only Issa’s talents can accomplish,” a Max spokesperson said in a statement.

“A huge thank you to Issa, showrunner Syreeta Singleton and the teams at Hoorae and 3 Arts Entertainment for introducing us to Shawna and Mia, a duo whose journey fans have been invested in and who they have continued to root for through everything,” the statement added.

Singleton shared a video of the show’s writers on Instagram and included the caption: “The best writers room ever. I will cherish this experience forever and ever.”

A rep for Rae did not immediately respond to Urban Hollywood 411‘s request for comment.

The series followed estranged high school friends Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion), who reunited to form a rap group in Miami. The cast also included Jonica Booth, Devon Terrell and RJ Cyler.

Rap Sh!t was embraced by TV critics and has a perfect 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

The show also has a loyal following among viewers. Following news of the cancellation, devoted fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disappointment.

Some asked why Black shows keep getting cut, following the recent cancellations of Disney Channel’s Saturdays; Starz’s Run the World; Bounce TV’s Act Your Age; OWN’s All Rise; ABC’s The Wonder Years reboot; and Apple TV+ basketball drama Swagger.

“First #Swagger and now #RapShit. I’m about to cancel all these streaming networks because they clearly don’t value their POC subscribers,” wrote X user @MsKevin504.

“We’re never gonna know what happens with Shawna, or Mia, or Chastity… their careers, nothinggggg #RapShit,” added X user @yagurlknic.

“Ain’t no way they cancelled Rap Sh!t and on a cliff hanger! @IssaRae we not standing for this #RapShit,” wrote Fox 5 DC digital content producer Sylvia Mphofe.

“That lil DEI wave in media post 2020 was so short lived. Saturdays, Rap Shit, Sweet Life: Los Angeles, The Wonder Years, Queens, All Rise, South Side, Grand Crew, Truth Be Told, and so many more Black shows I loved watching are canceled,” added Los Angeles journalist Daric Cottingham on X.

“#RapShit had a proper commentary on coming up as women in the music industry. It had timely critique. The characters were being fleshed out. Thematically it was so strong and nuanced. I am so irritated with these networks not allowing a show to grow. It hit its stride at S2E5,” cultural commentator Marquise Davon Richards wrote on X.
