A new documentary from Peacock titled Gary questions the circumstances surrounding the death of Diff’rent Strokes star Gary Coleman.
In a press release on Thursday, Aug. 8, the streamer said the film “explores the fascinating life and mysterious death” of the beloved child star.
Coleman’s former manager Dion Mial recalls in the trailer that the actor died after a string of personal disappointments.
“He said, ‘I just wanted to say goodbye. I cannot take this anymore,’ and we cried,” Mial shares. “His life was fraught with disappointments. From 1985 until his death, he lived with not a single kidney.”
The actor passed away in 2010 at age 42.
“If someone had told me that my life would have been like this early enough where I could have got out, I would have got out,” Gary Coleman says in archival footage.
The film will also delve into the actor’s lifelong illness and depression, his financial troubles, and tumultuous marriage.
Coleman’s ex-wife Shannon Price is shown in the trailer. She looks directly at the camera and says: “People think that I did this. Because I’m the ex-wife, I’m the evil person, right?”

According to the official description from Peacock, for the first time, viewers will get an insight into Coleman’s world through exclusive interviews with his Diff’rent Strokes co-star Todd Bridges, his former managers, his ex-wife, and his estranged parents, who famously stole his earnings.
The director of Gary is Robin Dashwood. One of Dashwood’s last projects was the Paramount+ true crime documentary series, “The Box.”
Produced by RAW, the executive producers are Louise Norman, Tom Sheahan, Steve Boettcher, and Mike Trinklein.
Gary will stream Aug. 29, 2024 on Peacock.
