Lauryn Hill has spoken out just days after she and the Fugees announced they were canceling their “Miseducation” anniversary tour dates in North America.
Hill took to X (previously Twitter) on Wednesday, Aug. 7, and released a statement explaining why the Grammy winners scrapped their tour just three days before the first date.
She blamed low ticket sales and the media for “clickbait headlines” about her previously canceled shows.
“Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows,” Hill wrote. “Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour.
“The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal,” she continued.

Hill assured fans that the UK and European tour dates will go on as planned in October. She also noted how fans in some parts of the world “haven’t seen the Fugees perform together in over 25 years.”
Still, this is not the first time the anniversary tour has been canceled in the U.S. In the fall of 2023, Hill postponed tour dates due to vocal strain.
In a replica of what happened earlier this week, Hill’s planned show in Philadelphia was set for Nov. 25, 2023, but just a few days before, it was scrapped. She announced that the rest of the 2023 tour would be postponed to some time in 2024.
The rapper and singer ended her statement by telling fans in North America when these “unforeseen circumstances are resolved,” the group will be back in “full force. “
