Greenleaf is ending with season 5, but fans can now look forward to a spinoff.
OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced in a press release Tuesday that the fifth and final season of the series will premiere on Tuesday, June 23. Along with the announcement came news that the network is developing a spinoff.
Greenleaf hails from creator and executive producer Craig Wright. The megachurch drama is produced for OWN by Lionsgate in association with Harpo Films and Pine City.
In its press release, OWN said Wright and executive producer Oprah Winfrey always envisioned the series would span five seasons, with Wright contemplating a spinoff. The plan was fast tracked when fans expressed their support for the show after its final season was announced earlier this month. OWN and Lionsgate are developing the spinoff.

In addition to Wright and Winfrey, Clement Virgo and Kriss Turner Towner also serve as executive producers.
The drama has a loyal audience and last season was the #1 original scripted series on ad-supported cable for African-American women. Viewers can now catch up on the complete first four seasons on Netflix.
The fifth and final season of Greenleaf premieres June 23 on OWN at 9 p.m. ET.
