The upcoming biopic Bob Marley: One Love celebrates the life, music, and activism of late reggae legend Bob Marley.
In a new featurette, director Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard) discussed the importance of filming in Marley’s hometown of Kingston, Jamaica — including in the Trench Town neighborhood where the musician spent part of his childhood.
“We traveled Bob’s journey,” Green said in the video. “We shot up and down the streets of Trench Town to add authenticity.”
“Being in the actual places where these things happened is very special,” added the music icon’s son, Ziggy Marley, who is a producer on the film.

Additional producers include Rita Marley, Cedella Marley, Robert Teitel, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner.
Stepping into the role of Bob Marley is British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir. BAFTA Award-winning actress Lashana Lynch co-stars as the music legend’s wife Rita Marley.
Additional cast members include James Norton, Tosin Cole, Umi Myers, Anthony Welsh, Nia Ashi, Aston Barrett Jr., Anna-Sharé Blake, Gawaine “J-Summa” Campbell, and Naomi Cowan.
At the movie’s red carpet premiere in Kingston on Jan. 23, Kingsley Ben-Adir said he turned to Marley’s children and friends for advice on bringing authenticity to the role.
“It was a communal thing,” the actor explained. “I’ve never been part of a project where the creation of something had to do with everyone… and I had to ask a lot of questions because I was with Jamaicans every day, and [asked] how’d Bob say this? How’d Bob say that?”
Executive producers on the film include Brad Pitt, Richard Hewitt, Orly Marley, and Matt Solodky.
The Paramount Pictures movie explores Marley’s journey from his humble beginnings, to his meteoric rise to global stardom.
Bob Marley: One Love opens on Feb. 14, 2024.
