Detective John Luther will make the case against more criminals in the new Luther movie.
Netflix has released the first photos from the film, which show star Idris Elba setting off for new locations as he takes on the criminal underworld.
In one image, Elba’s DCI Luther stands inside an underground train tunnel giving an icy glare. The second picture shows Luther on a snow-covered mountain.
The cast of the film also includes Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis, and Dermot Crowley.

The long-awaited thriller is based on the British crime series by the same name from creator Neil Cross, which premiered on BBC One in 2010.
During its five-season run, Elba won a string of awards for playing DCI Luther, including a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Television Award. The series also received multiple Emmy nominations.
The movie is a co-production between Netflix and BBC Films. Elba revealed in a November 2021 Instagram post that production had gotten underway on the film.
In an interview published last week by Empire magazine, the actor and producer said the movie will remain true to the television series.
“It’s really dangerous when expanding from television to film to throw a lot of money at it, and for that moment to change the characteristics of the show,” he said. “I wanted to make sure that even though we had a bigger budget, [we didn’t] distort the parameters of Luther-land too much. We do amplify the action and do amplify the stakes.”
The film is directed by Jamie Payne, who also worked on the series. Neil Cross wrote the script for the film.
Producers include Peter Chernin, David Ready, Jenno Topping, Neil Cross and Idris Elba. Executive Producers are Kris Thykier, Priscilla Paris, Brendan Ferguson, Miki Emmrich, Dan Finlay
Luther premieres on Netflix in March 2023.
