LL Cool J to Receive Icon Award at Urban One Honors

LL Cool J will be awarded the Entertainment Icon Honor at the 5th Annual Urban One Honors.

Media company Urban One made the announcement Monday, saying the NCIS: Los Angeles actor and two-time Grammy Award winner will be recognized for “extraordinary contributions” to the entertainment industry.

Additional honorees include The Manns stars David Mann and wife Tamela Mann, who together will receive the Inspirational Impact Honor. Legendary R&B singer Bobby Brown will receive the Icon of The Culture Honor. Hitmaker Pharrell and Rep. Maxine Waters will also be recognized.

Each year the Urban One Honors recognize individuals for contributions in entertainment, media, music, education, and the Black community.

This year’s theme is “Celebrating Icons of the Culture.” The show will be hosted by R&B singer and actor Tank. Performers include Keke Wyatt, Spinderella (Salt-N-Pepa), Monie Love, and Doug E. Fresh.

LeToya Luckett is set to host a backstage pass segment, featuring interviews with the show’s honorees, performers, and presenters.

The annual awards show is executive produced by Eric Tomosunas and Robert A. Boyd, II of Swirl Films. Kim Burse serves as musical director. Marilyn Gill is co-executive producer.

The Urban One Honors will be recorded in Atlanta on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022. The two-hour telecast premieres Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, on TV One and Cleo TV, a division of Urban One.
