Netflix won’t be airing any new episodes of Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It.
The streamer canceled the series after two seasons, it was announced Wednesday.
“Spike Lee is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and we’re thrilled he brought the series She’s Gotta Have It to Netflix,” the company’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “While this is our last season, we’re very proud that it will be on our service for years to come, and excited to be working with Spike on his upcoming Netflix film Da 5 Bloods.”

She’s Gotta Have It was based on Lee’s award-winning 1986 film.
Lee wrote, produced, edited and directed the film, which was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
Like the movie, the series followed free-spirited artist Nola Darling (DeWanda Wise). Anthony Ramos, Lyriq Bent, Cleo Anthony, Chyna Layne, and Margot Bingham rounded out the main cast.
The adaptation premiered in 2017, and the second season began streaming in May. Lee personally directed each one of the show’s 19 episodes. He also served as executive producer along with his wife Tonya Lewis Lee.
The director plans to shop the comedy around in hopes of finding another home.
