Mahershala Ali and Julia Roberts Face the Apocalypse in ‘Leave the World Behind’ Trailer

“Something is coming” and it’s scary, Mahershala Ali warns in the trailer for Netflix’s Leave the World Behind.

The streamer released the teaser on Monday for the upcoming psychological thriller.

“In my line of work you have to understand the patterns that govern the world. That can help you see the future,” Mahershala Ali says in the video.

The Oscar winner plays G.H., a mysterious stranger trying to escape a cyberattack.

Academy Award winner Julia Roberts plays Amanda, who rents a luxurious home for the weekend with her husband Clay (Ethan Hawke) and their two children.

The family’s vacation is soon upended when G.H. and his daughter Ruth (Myha’la) arrive at their doorstep, bearing news of a cyberattack and seeking refuge in the house they claim is theirs. The two families face a looming disaster that grows more terrifying by the minute, forcing everyone to come to terms with their places in a collapsing world.

The film’s cast also includes Farrah Mackenzie, Charlie Evans and Kevin Bacon.

Written and directed by Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot), Leave the World Behind is based on Rumaan Alam’s novel by the same name.

Executive producers on the film include Barack and Michelle Obama, Tonia Davis, Daniel M. Stillman, Nick Krishnamurthy, Rumaan Alam — with Roberts, Esmail, Chad Hamilton, Marisa Yeres Gill, Lisa Gillan serving as producers.

Leave the World Behind will be released in a limited number of theaters on Nov. 22, and begins streaming on Netflix Dec. 8, 2023.
