Two years after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, the first trailer has finally been released for Jonathan Majors’ bodybuilding drama, Magazine Dreams.
In the film, which was written and directed by Elijah Bynum, Majors stars as amateur bodybuilder Killian Maddox. Briarcliff Entertainment unveiled the trailer on Jan. 29.
“You have to do something big and important or nobody will remember you when you’re dead,” Killian says.

Killian is troubled, has a volatile temper, and struggles to read social cues. But “nothing deters him from his fiercely protected dream of bodybuilding superstardom, not even the doctors who warn that he’s causing permanent damage to his body with his quest,” according to the official description.
“I close my eyes and dream they’re going to put a picture of me on the cover of the magazine. The entire world will know my name,” he says in the video, while smiling and flexing in the mirror.
Haley Bennett, Taylour Paige, Mike O’Hearn, Harrison Page, and Harriet Sansom Harris also have roles in the film.
The original distributor, Disney’s Searchlight shelved the project in 2023, amid Majors’ legal troubles after he was arrested for assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.
Majors was convicted on misdemeanor counts of assault and harassment in December 2023.
Just before the actor’s legal troubles, Magazine Dreams was one of the favorites from the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. The bodybuilding drama won the dramatic special jury award for creative vision at the festival.
Now the film is back in the festival spotlight and opens the 2025 Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles on Feb. 4.
Majors, who has been continuing his comeback is also the festival’s 2025 ambassador and celebrity host. He is also going to be starring in the independent revenge thriller, Merciless.
Magazine Dreams was picked up by Briarcliff Entertainment and is set to be released in theaters on March 21.
