Detective chief inspector John Luther is headed to the big screen.
Idris Elba –who portrayed Luther on the BBC series — confirmed the movie is moving forward at the BAFTA TV Awards on July 31, according to Digital Spy.
“I’ve maintained that I’d like to see [Luther] come to a film,” Elba said. “That’s what I think we’re headed towards, is a film. I’m looking forward to making that happen.”
The actor then told reporters: “It is happening!”

The psychological crime drama debuted on BBC One in 2010, and concluded its fifth season in January 2019.
Elba is now hoping to take DCI Luther in a new direction.
“With a film, the sky is the limit,” he said. “Obviously, you can be a little bit more bold in the storylines, maybe international, a little bit sort of up the scale. But John Luther is always going to be John Luther.”
