Lifetime has found its Wendy Williams for the network’s upcoming biopic on the self-proclaimed “Queen of All Media.”

Ciera Payton (The Oval) will portray the talk show host in the movie tentatively titled Wendy Williams: The Hot Topic, Lifetime said Thursday in a press release. Morocco Omari (P-Valley, Empire) is set to co-star as Williams’ ex-husband, Kevin Hunter.

According to a description from Lifetime, “The authorized project provides a revealing look at Wendy’s journey, from her scrappy upstart days in urban radio to the success of her own syndicated talk show.”

The project, which was first announced a year ago, will start production this month.

The movie is produced by Front Street for Lifetime and executive produced by Williams. Additional executive producers include Will Packer and Sheila Ducksworth. Darren Grant will direct from a script written by Leigh Davenport and Scarlett Lacey.

Wendy Williams: The Hot Topic will premiere in 2021.

A feature length documentary about Williams will follow the biopic. In it, Williams will speak directly to the camera from her Manhattan apartment, discussing all of the joy and humiliation she says she has experienced since childhood.
