Stage and screen legend Leslie Uggams returns as Blind Al in Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

Uggams, a Tony and Emmy winner, first took on the role in Deadpool (2016).

Blind Al is the blind, elderly roommate of Ryan Reynolds’ character Wade Wilson/Deadpool in the superhero franchise.

Uggams reprised the role of the foul-mouthed granny in Deadpool 2 (2018). Now she continues the character’s journey in the latest installment of the film series.

At the world premiere on Monday, July 22, in New York City, Uggams talked about her red-hot career at age 81.

“It’s because I’m fabulous,” the actress said jokingly to People.

Uggams added that she “couldn’t wait to get back” to the Deadpool universe.

Earlier this year, the Harlem native spoke about refusing to slow down.

During an appearance on the Tamron Hall show, Uggams discussed her recent projects — including roles in the Oscar-winning American Fiction (2023), the off-Broadway musical Jelly’s Last Jam, and her stage show, Leslie Uggams: Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, at 54 Below in New York.

When the conversation turned to Deadpool & Wolverine, the actress told host Tamron Hall she managed to secure the role as potty-mouthed Blind Al after the first film’s director, Tim Miller, heard the way she said “f—k.”

“They sent me a script that made no sense whatsoever,” Uggams recalled.

There was no profanity in the original script, she explained. But when she met with the director, he asked her a question she apparently wasn’t ready to answer.

“The F-word came out of my mouth… and he turned to me and said, ‘I love the way you said that!’ And I got the role,” Uggams shared.

The Hollywood veteran has been acting since the 1960s, with roles in I Spy, The Love Boat, A Different World, Nurse Jackie, Empire, The Good Wife, New Amsterdam, and the award-winning 2022 thriller Nanny.

Uggams is also currently working on season 2 of Amazon’s Fallout series.

Deadpool & Wolverine starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman hits theaters on Friday, July 26.
