It’s been nearly five years since Fox canceled Star, but the series may not be gone for good.
Lee Daniels and Tom Donaghy created the show about three singers trying to make it in the music business.
Since Fox handed down news of the cancellation in May 2019, loyal fans have been clamoring for more of the musical drama starring Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny, and Brittany O’Grady.

Now there’s an update.
On Feb. 19, YouTuber and influencer @iamzoie shared a clip of the show on Instagram and wrote: “I NEED STAR BACK…”
Lee Daniels replied to the post and revealed a return just might happen.
“Love you for this. It is being written. I appreciate everybody’s love! It’s just taken me FOREVER cause I have other projects… It’s crazy, I had NO IDEA when I created this show the response would be like this. #grateful,” the filmmaker replied.
Star premiered in 2016, and was a companion to Empire.
In addition to the three lead actresses, the cast included Quincy Brown, Queen Latifah, Amiyah Scott and Brandy Norwood. Lance Gross and Benjamin Bratt also had roles on the show.
When the series ended after three seasons in 2019, Daniels said the cast and crew were “heartbroken.”
The writer, producer, director added that he was trying to find the show a new home, but he later said things didn’t worked out.
That same month during a meeting with reporters, Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier said the decision to cancel Star was tied to Daniels’ other show, Empire, adding that the network wanted to focus more attention on Empire for its sixth and final season.
