According to the official description, the series follows “a young couple returning to the husband’s childhood home. Their world is upended when new neighbors move in next door, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light, and new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighborhood.”
With a nod to the original movie, Peacock said The ‘Burbs will be shot on the same Universal Studios Hollywood backlot as the film.
In the big screen version, the late Carrie Fisher co-starred alongside Hanks as married couple Ray and Carol Peterson.
The cast also included Bruce Dern, Rick Ducommun, Corey Feldman, Wendy Schaal, Henry Gibson, and Gale Gordon.
Celeste Hughey (Palm Royale, Dead to Me) will write and executive produce the series. Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, and Aimee Carlson for Fuzzy Door will executive produce alongside Brian Grazer, Kristen Zolner, and Natalie Berkus for Imagine Entertainment.
Dana Olsen, the writer of the 1989 film, will serve as co-executive producer on the series. Olsen made a cameo appearance in the original film.
UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio behind the series.
A premiere date will be announced later.
Palmer’s previous acting credits include, but are not limited to Nope (2022), Hustlers (2019), and the TV series Scream Queens. She is also currently promoting her memoir Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative, which will be released on Nov. 19.
