The Chi star Jason Mitchell is set to lead the cast of the upcoming thriller Black Heat from award-winning filmmaker Wes Miller.
Mitchell is joined in the film by rappers Tabatha “Dreamdoll” Robinson and NLE Choppa.
The story follows parents played by Mitchell and Robinson. The pair have to take matters into their own hands to rescue their 15-year-old daughter from the grips of a powerful and ruthless pimp, portrayed by NLE Choppa.
The parents “must navigate a network of deceit and betrayals, relying on their own cunning, strength, and courage to outsmart those who would exploit the innocent,” according to the official description.
Black Heat is expected to arrive in U.S. theaters on March 28, according to Deadline, which broke the news on Thursday, Feb. 20.

Mitchell’s other film credits include SuperFly (2018), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Mudbound (2017), and Straight Outta Compton (2015).
The actor exited The Chi in 2019 amid misconduct allegations. Since then he has starred in and produced the 2023 film Everything is Both, as well as the film Dishonorable.
His new film is a partnership between Dark Star Pictures and a new distribution arm, BLacklight, founded by Miller and Andrew van den Houten.
“BLacklight is about bringing that raw, unfiltered energy back to the big screen—the kind that spoke directly to us in the ‘70s and defined a generation in the ‘90s,” Wes Miller (River Runs Red) told Deadline.
“We’re building a home for films that don’t just entertain but reflect our culture, our struggles, and our victories. From hard-hitting action to gripping drama, we’re here to make sure Black audiences see themselves, front and center, the way we deserve,” Miller added.
