Baltimore’s hardest working homicide detectives will soon be back on the case when Homicide: Life on the Street comes to Peacock in August.
The streamer announced Monday all seven seasons have been remastered to HD and 4K for the first time, ahead of the move to streaming.
The 1990s NBC police procedural chronicled the work of a fictional version of the Baltimore Police Department’s Homicide Unit.
The series starred the late Andre Braugher as brash Detective Frank Pembleton, who was known for grilling suspects in an interrogation room known as “the box.”
The cast also included Ned Beatty, Richard Belzer, Yaphet Kotto, Melissa Leo, Giancarlo Esposito, Daniel Baldwin, Jon Polito, Clark Johnson, Kyle Secor, Reed Diamond, Michelle Forbes, Peter Gerety, Isabella Hofmann, Toni Lewis, Michael Michele, Max Perlich, Jon Seda, and Callie Thorn.
Beatty, Belzer, and Kotto have since passed away.
The drama was based on the book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets by former Baltimore Sun reporter David Simon (The Wire).
The series premiered in 1993 and ran for 122 episodes. The story ended with Homicide: The Movie, which served as the series finale in 2000.
Problems with securing music rights and clearance costs prevented Homicide from coming to streaming until now, per TV Line.
Paul Attanasio created the series and Tom Fontana served as head writer and showrunner.
During its run, Homicide won four Emmy Awards, including outstanding lead actor for Braugher and outstanding individual achievement in writing for Fontana.
Universal Television produced the series.
Homicide: Life on the Street arrives on Peacock Monday, Aug. 19.
