Each year, the Urban One Honors celebrate individuals who’ve made significant contributions to urban entertainment, media, and music, as well as education and the Black community.
This year’s theme is “The Soundtrack of Black America.” The 2022 honorees include a slate of legends:
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis – Lifetime Achievement Award
Timbaland – Music Innovation Award
Tasha Cobbs Leonard – Inspiration Impact Award
Jennifer Hudson – Entertainment Icon Award
“Me and Mrs. Jones” songwriters Gamble and Huff – Living Legends Award
The 2022 program was hosted by Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and producer Ne-Yo. TV and radio personality Eva Marcille will host backstage interviews with the show’s honorees, performers and presenters.
Organizers told Urban Hollywood 411, the program was previously taped and therefore was not postponed because of the rapidly spreading Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
The awards are executive produced by Eric Tomosunas and Robert A. Boyd, along with Marilyn Gill of Swirl Films. Kim Burse serves as musical director.
The Urban One Honors premiered Monday, Jan. 17, at 8:00 PM ET/7:00 PM CT on TV One and Cleo TV.
