Lil Rel Howery has a new gig and it’s no joke.

Fox announced Thursday that it has ordered Howery’s self-titled comedy Rel to series. The Multi-camera sitcom is inspired by Lil Rel’s real-life, Fox confirmed to Urban Hollywood 411.

The actor and comedian will play a self-made success who learns his wife is having an affair with his barber. “He tries to rebuild his life post-divorce as a long-distance single father on the South Side of Chicago who’s on a quest for love, respect and a new barber,” according to Fox’s description of the show.

Sinbad will co-star as Rel’s dad. Jessica “Hilarious” Moore and Jordan L. Jones also have roles on the show.

Chicago native Lil Rel, 38, rose to prominence on NBC’s The Carmichael Show, which was canceled last year after three seasons. He also had a breakout role as TSA officer Rod Williams in Jordan Peele’s Oscar-winning thriller Get Out.

Howery will serve as a writer and executive producer on the comedy series as well as star.

Kevin Barnett and Josh Rabinowitz are on board as writers and executive producers. Mike Scully will serve as executive producer and showrunner, and Jerrod Carmichael is an executive producer.

The comedy is produced by 20th Century Fox Television.

Fox also announced Thursday that it is cancelling cop-comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Last Man on Earth and The Mick.
