Faith Evans is reportedly “furious” about Lifetime’s upcoming TV special Hopelessly in Love: Faith Evans and Notorious B.I.G., which explores her marriage to late rapper Notorious B.I.G.

The upcoming episode is part of the network’s Hopelessly in Love docuseries about high-profile celebrity relationships cut short by untimely deaths.

While Evans was intereviewed for the series, this weekend she told Page Six the episode didn’t turn out the way it was pitched to her.

“I feel upset that I’m attached to it. I was told that it would be a positive piece with a little more of my personal background. It wasn’t pitched to me as a story rehashing the sensationalized events that took place,” she said. “I am beyond that and have no need to open old wounds, damage repaired relationships and, above all, soil the legacy of Christopher Wallace a?k?a the Notorious B.I.G.”

In a press release, Lifetime described the episode as a look at “the intense marriage between Faith Evans and the Notorious B.I.G., two of the biggest stars in R&B and hip hop. This is the story about young love and the pressures and consequences of fame for the couple and the culture at large. Twenty years after the iconic rapper’s murder, Faith Evans is ready to confront her pain and revisit the most intimate moments of their relationship.”

Evans now says the series is salacious and rehashes old drama.

“The Tupac stuff, the different women — how many times are people going to talk about that? It was supposed to be a love story, and it turns into cheating and [Lil’] Kim. We’ve come so far past that. [Lifetime’s] all about drama,” Evans said.

She added that Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace, is also upset.

“Ms. Wallace is pissed. Everyone was blindsided. She has worked very hard for his legacy to be acknowledged in a more positive light. He’s nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This [doc] is taking steps backward,” Evans explained.

The docuseries also explores the love stories of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Andre Rison; and Anna Nicole Smith and Larry Birkhead.

Hopelessly in Love: Faith Evans and Notorious B.I.G. premieres Friday, January 10 at 9pm ET/PT.
