The 76th Emmys celebrated excellence in television writing, directing and acting.
Among the highlights from the awards on Sunday, Sept. 15, The Bear actress Liza Colón-Zayas made history when she won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and became the first Latina to take home a trophy in the category.
“To all the Latinas looking at me — keep believing and vote. Vote for your rights,” Colón-Zayas said in her acceptance speech.
Her co-stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Jeremy Allen White also took Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series, respectively.

Lamorne Morris picked up his first Emmy in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie for his role in the anthology series Fargo. Despite his previous sitcom getting nominated for five Emmys, this was the New Girls actor’s first time attending the Emmys ceremony.
“I want to thank God for allowing me to be here. I also want to thank God for my beautiful mother, who raised me. She’s been my biggest champion ever since you know came out of, I dropped out of her,” Morris joked. He also reminded his daughter, “I told you I would do it.”
Netflix limited series Baby Reindeer, HBO comedy Hacks, FX/Hulu drama Shogun, and FX/Hulu comedy-drama The Bear were the most awarded shows of the night.
John Leguizamo, who won an Emmy in 1999 for his one-man show John Leguizamo: Freak, took to the stage and called out Hollywood’s history of having white actors portray Latinos on screen.
“Everybody played us, except us,” Leguizamo said. “I didn’t see a lot of people on TV that looked like me. I didn’t complain about the limited roles my people were offered: the spicy sex pot, the Latin lover, the maid, the gang banger. Turns out, not complaining doesn’t change anything.”
Still, he noted that there’s been some progress over the years and recognized this year’s nominees of color, including Sofia Vergara and Selena Gomez.
Leguizamo’s comments came after he wrote open letter to the Television Academy in the New York Times on June 9, 2024, four days before voting began for this year’s Emmy nominations — which he mentioned on stage.
The 76th Emmy Awards aired on ABC with Eugene and Dan Levy from their the award-winning series Schitt’s Creek, hosted Sunday’s awards from the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
