The nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards were announced Wednesday, with Abbott Elementary, Hijack, and Griselda among the nominees.
FX drama series Shogun dominated the competition with 25 nominations.
The Bear set a new record for the most nominations in a single year for a comedy series, with 23 nominations — topping the record previously held by 30 Rock with 22 nods in 2009.

Other leading nominees included Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building with 21 nods, HBO Max’s True Detective: Night Country with 19, and Netflix’s The Crown with 18.
Among the lead actors nominated are Idris Elba (Hijack), Donald Glover (Mr. & Mrs. Smith), and Sofia Vergara (Griselda). Vergara’s nomination makes her the first woman from a Latin American country nominated in the “Lead Actress in a Limited Series” category.
The live nominations ceremony was hosted from the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood by Emmy winners Tony Hale (Arrested Development) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary), along with Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego.
“Television delivers stories that connect us, uplift us, challenge us, and always entertain us. Today, I am honored to celebrate the outstanding work of our extraordinarily talented and hardworking creative community,” said Abrego.
During the livestream, Ralph received the surprise news that she had received another Emmy nomination this year for best supporting actress.
The 2024 Emmy Awards will be the second held this year. Last year’s awards were originally scheduled to air in September 2023, but the show was postponed to the beginning of this year due to the Hollywood strikes. It was the first time the Emmys shifted air dates since 2001, following the September 11 attacks.
