Eddie Murphy says he’s starting to feel the pressure as he prepares for his return this weekend to Saturday Night Live.

The comedian took time out of rehearsals for a Thursday interview with Today’s Al Roker.

As the two sat in Studio 8H, Murphy talked about the four years he spent as an SNL cast member, and admitted “it was kind of surreal” to be back hosting for the first time in 35 years.

Roker asked the SNL vet if he planned to bring back some of the iconic characters he played on the show.

“We’re talking about a Gumby thing, we’re talking about a Buckwheat thing, and I told you a Bill Cosby thing maybe, it’ll be very funny,” Murphy responded. “I don’t know if he would think it was funny.”

“I’m down for whatever,” Murphy said, although he admitted he’s a little nervous about his SNL return.

“I really, really want it to be right. You don’t want to wait 35 years to come back, and the show ain’t sh-t,” he quipped, “people clapping and going ‘I thought he would be much funnier than this. Maybe he’s old now.'”

Murphy is set to host SNL on Saturday, Dec. 21. Lizzo will serve as musical guest.
