Eddie Murphy Cements Amazon Partnership With Three-Picture Deal

Eddie Murphy has found a new home at Amazon Studios with a three-picture and first-look film deal. 

The contract has Murphy starring in three films as well as developing original movies for Prime Video. The Emmy-winning actor also has the option to star in the projects. 

“Eddie is a legend both in front of and behind the camera,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said in a statement Wednesday to Variety. “With undeniable comedic and dramatic genius, he consistently delivers entertaining, original stories and characters to audiences around the world. We could not be more excited to help carry on the tradition and to officially welcome Eddie into the Amazon family.”

The actor and comedian began his relationship with Amazon with his most recent film, Coming 2 AmericaThe sequel was originally slated for a theatrical release by Paramount Pictures, but due to cinemas being shuttered because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the studio sold the film to Amazon. Coming 2 America began streaming in March of this year on Prime Video.  

Murphy has starred in a string of hit films after becoming a household name on Saturday Night Live in the 1980s. Among his most popular movies are the Shrek films, Beverly Hills Cop, The Nutty Professor, and the original Coming to America.
