Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus. He is now breathing on his own. Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.”

“Staff immediately responded, activated 911 and began medical aid. Peterson was subsequently transported to an outside medical facility for further treatment,” Calderón Michel added.

TMZ, which first reported the stabbing, said Lanez was taken to a hospital in Bakersfield. Sources told the outlet the hip-hop star suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
According to the prison spokesman, the stabbing is under investigation by the Investigative Services Unit at the Tehachapi facility and by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.
In August 2023, A Los Angeles judge sentenced Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, to 10 years in state prison for shooting fellow hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion.
The July 2020 shooting happened after a party in the Hollywood Hills. The two rappers had been dating and got into a dispute while riding in an SUV.
Lanez, a native of Canada known for such hits as “It Doesn’t Matter and “Luv,” insisted he was not guilty.
Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Pete, testified that she exited the SUV and Lanez shot her in the feet. The “Hot Girl Summer” rapper said someone in the neighborhood called police after hearing gunfire and there were helicopters flying overhead. LAPD officers on the ground ordered everyone out of the vehicle.
Lanez was convicted by a Los Angeles jury on Dec. 23, 2022. Sheriff’s deputies remanded him into custody immediately after jurors handed down the verdict.
Despite being incarcerated, Lanez released a new album from prison on March 7.
According to Hot New Hip Hop, the album sold 24,000 units in its first week of release — respectable numbers considering the LP got no promotion given the rapper’s current circumstance.
