‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Crosses $100 Million Mark at Box Office

Crazy Rich Asians continues to dominate the box office, taking the top spot for a third straight weekend.

The romantic comedy is on pace to earn an estimated $22.2 million from Friday to Sunday, according to Box Office Mojo. Over the long Labor Day weekend, the Warner Bros. release is expected to take in $28-$30 million.

The Jon M. Chu-directed film continues to mark milestones at the box office. This weekend it crossed the $100 million mark, for a three-week total of $110.9 million. It’s also one of only a handful of releases this year to score three consecutive box-office wins, after Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.

Elsewhere at the box office, The Meg reels in another $10.5 million over the three days. Since the shark drama debuted on Aug. 10, it’s earned $120.5 million domestically.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout takes third place with $7 million, for a six-week domestic total of $204 million.

Operation Finale, about a secret Israeli mission to capture the Nazi officer who masterminded the Holocaust, and fled to Argentina after the war, is expected to open in fourth place with $6 million.

Not far behind is missing persons thriller, Searching, with $5.7 million.

It stars John Cho as a desperate father who breaks into his teenage daughter’s laptop to search for clues after she vanishes. It opened in limited release last weekend, and expanded to 1,207 theaters this week.
