Chris Rock Is Bringing Back ‘Saw’ Horror Franchise

Chris Rock is set to resurrect the popular horror franchise, Saw.

Working alongside Lionsgate and original producer Twisted Pictures, Rock has put his own spin on the series’ notorious Jigsaw Killer, creating a new and “really intense” installment from a story he conceptualized.

“I’ve been a fan of Saw since the first film in 2004,” Rock said in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place.”

Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group chairman Joe Drake shared Rock’s enthusiasm, saying in his own statement: “When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins-off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all in.”

He continued: “Saw is one of the highest grossing horror franchises of all-time and it’s one of Lionsgate’s most successful film series. This upcoming film will still be as mind-bending and intense as all the previous Saw films.”

Rock will serve as the new film’s executive producer while writing partners Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg will adapt his story to the big screen. The movie is slated for an Oct. 23, 2020 release.

The Saw franchise began in 2004 and ended in 2017. Throughout the series’ 13-year run, it has grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide.
