DJ Khaled to Release Nipsey Hussle Collaboration ‘Higher’

DJ Khaled is set to release a new single featuring Nipsey Hussle that was recorded shortly before the rapper was killed.

The song, “Higher,” will appear on DJ Khaled’s new album, Father of Asahd, which is slated for a Friday, May 17 release.

“It began when a tragedy robbed the world of an enlightened soul, a brother, a father, a partner and my friend, Nipsey Hussle,” DJ Khaled penned in a message posted on Instagram Wednesday.  “Just days prior, he shared his energy and positivity with me on a video set for a song called ‘Higher.'”

The songwriter also revealed that 100 percent of the song’s proceeds will go to Hussle’s (real name Ermias  Asghedom) two young children, Kross and Emani, and that he had permission from the late rapper’s family to release the track.

“The Marathon Continues,” the record producer concluded, making reference to the name of Hussle’s 2010 mixtape.

John Legend, who also appears on the song, tweeted out his own message about the release.

“Proud to be a part of this inspiring record with @djkhaled and @nipseyhussle,” he said. “We lost him too soon. The proceeds will go to his loved ones.”

Hussle was fatally shot on March 31 outside his Marathon Clothing store in South Los Angeles. Two other men were wounded in the attack.

The rapper’s suspected killer, Eric Holder, was arrested on April 2.  Holder was charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
