Robyn McCall is stepping away from battling bad guys now that CBS has canceled The Equalizer.
Queen Latifah shared news of the cancellation Friday evening on Instagram. The multi-hyphenate stars in the crime drama and serves as an executive producer through her Flavor Unit production company alongside Shakim Compere.
“Stepping into a kick-ass role like Robyn was everything I hoped it would be,” Latifah wrote in a statement. “Shakim and I at Flavor Unit are always excited to bring these kinds of roles and projects to life — and then we just hope you love them as much as we do.”
The actress and producer added, “The Equalizer blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal.”

Queen Latifah expressed gratitude to the show’s production team and to fans who watched the show each week.
“Thank you to our amazing cast, crew, and producers and writers! And I can’t say enough about the FANS! Y’all have been so loyal, so loud, and so ride-or-die — and that’s exactly why we keep doing this,” she added. “And don’t worry — I’ll be back kicking ass in something new real soon.”
With CBS deciding not to move forward with a sixth season, this Sunday’s season 5 finale will mark the end of the series.
The drama is a re-imagining of The Equalizer series that ran on CBS from 1985 to 1989, and inspired a blockbuster movie franchise starring Denzel Washington.
The latest TV drama follows a divorced single mother and former CIA operative with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills to help people with nowhere else to turn.
The cast also includes Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, Laya DeLeon Hayes, and Lorraine Toussaint.
The series premiered to massive ratings after the Super Bowl on Feb. 7, 2021. A total of 23.8 million viewers tuned in for the debut episode, making it the most-watched premiere of the 2020-2021 broadcast season, as previously reported.
After four episodes, the drama remained television’s #1 scripted series with an average of 14.6 million viewers.
But over the years, the audience fell off. This evening, TV Line reported season 5 has been averaging 6.1 million total viewers. That’s down 25 percent from season 4.
CBS recently decided not to move forward with a spinoff of the drama led by Bosch star Titus Welliver.
In recent weeks, the network also canceled Poppa’s House, S.W.A.T., FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International.
