Brandon T. Jackson  believes wearing a dress on screen left his career in tatters.

During a recent interview with Comedy Hype, the actor said his career unraveled after he donned a dress for the 2011 film Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son.

“Everything went wrong when I put on that dress,” he explained. “It was a negative changing point, to be honest. Positive in a way where my image was on every bus, but my personal life was in shambles at that time. It was horrible.”

Jackson played star Martin Lawrence’s stepson Trent Pierce in the comedy about an FBI agent who goes undercover as an elderly woman.

The film was the third installment in the franchise, but Jackson said he wasn’t a fan of the finished product.

“First of all, no offense, that movie wasn’t that good to me,” he said. “It wasn’t a prolific film. I sound so mean, like, ‘You should be grateful for it,’ but I’m real. It wasn’t the best movie. It was an entertaining film.”

Jackson said following the success of the earlier films in the franchise and Mrs. Doubtfire, the premise of men dressed in drag had become tired.

“The whole dress bit was already overdone,” he said. “I did it purely for the money and to work with Martin Lawrence.”

The film cost a reported $32 million to make, and earned $82 million worldwide. Despite its success, Jackson insists he’s had a string of bad luck since its  release.

“I was cursed by it,” he stated. “I believe it was cursed because nothing went right since then.”

According to his IMDb page, Jackson has continued to work since the film arrived in theaters eight years ago, although he’s mostly had small roles.
