Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut, Blink Twice, is a nightmare in paradise.
In a new featurette released Thursday by Amazon MGM Studios, actress Naomi Ackie, who plays main character Frida, described the upcoming thriller in one sentence.
“It becomes like a party that you stayed at for way too long,” said the Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody star.
Her co-star Channing Tatum, who is engaged to Kravitz, praised his partner’s directorial skills.
“Our director Zoë Kravitz is insanely smart,” Tatum said about his fiancée. “She leads from a place that isn’t just all heart, it’s not all just brain, it’s something else, and that’s what the movie really feels like.”

In the film, Tatum stars as tech billionaire Slater King — a man known for unhinged parties on his private island. He meets cocktail waitress Frida and invites her to join him. She’s looking for adventure and goes with him, along with her friend Jess (Alia Shawkat). Everything is going fine until strange things start to happen and Frida begins to question her reality.
Tatum said he had fun bringing Slater to life.
“Slater is a very calculated person, so I got to create something absolutely bonkers,” Tatum explained.
Additional cast members include Haley Joel Osment, Christian Slater, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Kyle MacLachlan, and Geena Davis.
Along with Kravitz and Tatum, Bruce Cohen, Tiffany Persons, and Garret Levitz are producers.
Kravitz (The Batman and Big Little Lies) co-wrote the script with High Fidelity writer E.T. Feigenbaum.
“The film takes you on this journey, it’s wild,” Kravitz said in the featurette.
Blink Twice is set to be released in theaters on Aug. 23, 2024.
