‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Passes $400 Million Mark at Box Office

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever continued to rule the domestic box office for a fifth straight week, this time taking in $11.1 million on a slow weekend in theaters.

That pushed the Marvel blockbuster to a domestic total of $409.8 million since it opened on Nov. 11, according to box office tracking company Comscore.

Wakanda Forever now stands as the 3rd highest grossing release of the year in North America, after Top Gun: Maverick ($718 million) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($411 million).

Over the next few days, Wakanda Forever is expected to pass Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, to become the #2 top grossing film of 2022.

The Ryan Coogler-directed saga has already passed Jurassic World: Dominion ($376 million), Minions: The Rise of Gru ($369.5 million), The Batman ($369.3 million), and Thor: Love and Thunder ($343 million).

Globally, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has earned a total of $768 million.

Elsewhere this weekend at the domestic box office, Christmas comedy Violent Night took second place with $8.7 million in its second weekend.

Disney’s Strange World was third with $3.6 million in its third weekend in theaters. Searchlight’s The Menu came in fourth with $2.7 million in its fourth week of release, and Devotion rounded out the top five with $2 million in its third week.

Next weekend, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water is expected to make a huge splash at the box office. The sequel tells the story of the Sully family on the planet of Pandora, and stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang. Watch the trailer here.
