The 2023 Black Music Honors will celebrate a group of artists who’ve made a significant impact to African-American music.
This year’s honorees are award-winning musical group SWV; hip-hop superstar Missy Elliott; disco superstar Evelyn “Champagne” King; R&B singer Jeffrey Osborne; and gospel trailblazers The Hawkins Family.
Produced by Central City Productions, the 8th annual event will take place at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta on Friday, May 19.
“Black music is the heartbeat of our culture, and the honorees for this years’ Black Music Honors represent the soul of American music,” executive producer Don Jackson said in a press release. “We pay homage to the musical innovators who have paved the way for future generations. Our tribute performances not only celebrate the honorees of yesterday, but also showcase the influence and impact of their iconic sounds and styles on today’s artists.”
