Johnny Gill, Patrice Rushen, Bootsy Collins, and Hezekiah Walker were the toast of the 2024 Black Music Honors.
R&B singer Gill; jazz pianist and R&B singer Rushen; funk music pioneer Collins; and gospel artist Walker were all honored for their achievements and contributions to Black music.
The annual event took place over the weekend at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, with rap pioneer, actress and awards show announcer MC Lyte receiving a surprise award.

Singer and actress LeToya Luckett hosted the ceremony alongside actor and comedian DeRay Davis.
Also attending the show were Ceelo Green, MC Lyte, Marsha Ambrosius, Chrisette Michele, Next, Mr. Talkbox, J. Brown, After 7, Jekalyn Carr, Mali Music, Ruben Studdard, Kim Burrell, BLK ODYSSY, Donald Lawrence, Kevin Lemons & Higher Calling, Ricky Dillard, MonoNeon, Shanice, The Chi (Carl Thomas, Dave Hollister & Syleena Johnson), Tone Stith, and David and Tamela Mann.
The 9th Annual Black Music Honors telecast was executive produced by Don Jackson, with Jennifer J. Jackson serving as producer. Michael A. Johnson produced and directed the show.
The televised special is scheduled to air on the Stellar Network on Saturday, June 1 at 8pm EST, with a rebroadcast at 10pm EST and air in national broadcast syndication June 8 – June 30 in tribute to Black Music Month.
The show will also be broadcast on Bounce TV Wednesday, June 19th (Juneteenth) at 9pm EST.
