Produced by Chicago-based production company Central City Productions, the annual event celebrates Black music and honors artists who have shaped the industry, and left an indelible mark on the culture.

As previously reported, this year’s honorees include legendary R&B singer Johnny Gill; pianist and R&B singer Patrice Rushen; funk music pioneer Bootsy Collins; and Grammy Award-winning gospel artist Hezekiah Walker.

Jennifer J. Jackson and Michael A. Johnson will serve as the producer and director.

Set to return and co-host this year are singer and actress LeToya Luckett alongside actor-comedian DeRay Davis.

The celebration first began as a TV show named “Celebrate the Soul of American Music” from 1990 to 1993, showcasing top talent. The event was rebranded as Black Music Honors in 2016, marking Black Music Month.

The two-hour show premieres on the Stellar Network on Saturday, June 1 at 8pm EST and airs in national broadcast syndication June 8 to June 30 in honor of Black Music Month.

The show will also air on Bounce TV on June 19 at 9pm EST.
