Netflix’s new period drama Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is turning to rapper Big Freedia for a promotional bounce.

The streamer’s Strong Black Lead division tapped the New Orleans artist to create the remix video “Hey Queen” – ahead of the show’s May 15 premiere.

The video dropped Monday and features the “Queen of Bounce Music” with the marching band and royal court from Xavier University in the rapper’s hometown.

Netflix describes the video from director Edward Buckles (HBO’s Katrina Babies) as “a nod to the significance of HBCU royal court culture, and a love letter to the rich history of New Orleans.”

On April 15, the streamer plans a “Spring Waltz” dance party inspired by Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, that will take place at Xavier University featuring a performance by Big Freedia.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to England’s King George III sparked a love story and societal shift.

In real life, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz married George III in 1761. The northern German princess was widely rumored to have African ancestry.

The Bridgerton prequel series features India Amarteifio (Line of Duty and Sex Education) as a young version of the queen.

The cast of the six-episode limited series also includes Arsema Thomas as young Lady Danbury, Michelle Fairley as Princess Augusta, Sam Clemmett as Young Brimsley, Freddie Dennis as Reynolds, Richard Cunningham as Lord Bute, Tunji Kasim as Adolphus, Rob Maloney as the Royal Doctor, Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury, and Hugh Sachs as Brimsley. Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury) and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet) reprise their roles from Bridgerton.

Shonda Rhimes is showrunner, executive producer and writer of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Betsy Beers co-executive produces and Tom Verica is director and executive producer.
