The BET Awards returned Sunday night with an international roster of performers and an all-star tribute to Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The Diddy performance included the Bad Boy Records founder taking the stage with Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, Lil’ Kim, Busta Rhymes, The Lox, Bryson Tiller, Faith Evans, Shyne and The Maverick City Choir.
It closed with the single “I’ll Be Missing You,” which was dedicated to late Uptown Records founder Andre Harrell, Diddy’s former partner Kim Porter, and The Notorious B.I.G.
Other performers included Lizzo; Jack Harlow with Lil Wayne and Brandy; Maverick City Music x Kirk Franklin; Latto with Mariah Carey; Chance the Rapper with Joey Badass; Muni Long; and Nigerian singer Fireboy DML.
Among the winners, Kendrick Lamar and Silk Sonic led the competition with two awards each. Latto and Jazmine Sullivan (above) also took home awards, and Will Smith was named best actor.
The awards — which honor “Black excellence in music, television, film and sports” — aired live from the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Former Empire actress Taraji P. Henson hosted the show.
