Netflix released the trailer on Wednesday for Beauty, a 1980s drama from Lena Waithe and Andrew Dosunmu about the dark side of fame.
Gracie Marie Bradley leads the cast as Beauty, a gifted young singer who struggles to maintain her voice and identity after she’s offered a lucrative recording contract.
The record deal sets off a fierce battle between Beauty’s family, the label, and her closest friend over who will guide thd singer as her star rises.
Niecy Nash and Giancarlo Esposito play her parents, and Sharon Stone is the music executive hoping to mold Beauty into a global sensation.

In the trailer, Nash has reservations about the music business and warns: “I am not sending her out into the world to be eaten by wolves.”
The protective mom insists, “She ain’t ready.” But Stone counters, “Trust me, she’s ready.”
Bradley’s Beauty says, “I don’t know how to sing Black or white. I just know how to sing, because that’s what I like to do. I just want to use the gift God gave me.”
Additional cast members include Aleyse Shannon, Kyle Bary, and Micheal Ward.
The drama is directed and executive produced by Andrew Dosunmu. Lena Waithe wrote the script and produced the film with Michael Ellenberg. Executive producers include Carrie Fix and Rishi Rajani.
Beauty just premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. The drama begins streaming June 29 on Netflix.
