‘Atlanta’ Gets Season 3 Premiere Date on FX

The long wait is almost over. Atlanta is set to return in 2022 after a three year hiatus.

FX made the announcement Wednesday, saying season 3 of the series will premiere on March 24.

“We are thrilled to have Atlanta back with a new season,” Eric Schrier, president of FX Entertainment, said in a statement. “Once again, Donald Glover, the producers and stellar cast have delivered another signature season synonymous with the excellence that makes Atlanta so great.”

Season 2 of the Donald Glover-led show concluded in May 2018.

Season 3 finds “Earn” (Glover), “Alfred/”Paper Boi” (Brian Tyree Henry), “Darius” (LaKeith Stanfield) and “Van” (Zazie Beetz) in the midst of a successful European tour, as the group navigates their new surroundings, and they struggle to adjust to the newfound success they aspired to achieve. The new season takes place almost entirely in Europe.

Glover dropped a cryptic teaser hinting about season 3 back in October. The video showed Paper Boi along with images of a rain-soaked street, deserted museums, and an empty theater before the song “It’s After the End of the World” by Sun Ra began playing.

Since it debuted in 2016, the show has picked up five Emmy Awards — in the categories of outstanding lead actor in a comedy series for Glover; outstanding guest actor for Katt Williams; outstanding directing, outstanding cinematography, and outstanding sound editing.

Glover created and executive produces the series. Other executive producers include Paul Simms, Hiro Murai, Dianne McGunigle, and Stephen Glover. The show is produced by FX Productions and shot on location in the city of Atlanta.

The 10-episode third season marks the first time Atlanta will be available for in-season streaming on Hulu. The first two seasons are also available on the platform.

FX will run a new teaser trailer on ESPN and ABC’s slate of NBA games on Christmas Day. Season 3 of Atlanta premieres on Thursday, March 24, 2022.
